PING’s collective drive to push innovation in both club design and custom fitting is integrated because the effectiveness of a custom fitting rests on our ability to put the game’s best-performing clubs in your hands. Our Golf Science team is made up of highly skilled engineers and PhDs whose relentless curiosity and intellect continue to advance design and fitting.

In designing clubs we hypothesize, test, and prove (or disprove), and repeat until the new clubs perform measurably better than those that preceded them.
 

We vet our processes through rigorous scientific methods at The PING Proving Grounds, in the PING Putting Lab, Kinetics Launch Pad, Flight & Collision Depot, and on our Test Field. Our scientists, engineers and researchers apply biomechanics, kinetics and impact physics to improve product performance and custom fitting.

Among our ranks are engineers who are named inventors on hundreds of patents, and who have earned advanced degrees from prestigious universities in diverse fields including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, and applied mathematics.

Engineers and researchers explore the physics of ball flight, club-ball impact, aerodynamics, inertial sensing, motion capture, impact dynamics, friction, and many other aspects of golf science.  We learn a lot by playing the game, as well.  A number of engineers and designers are top-flight golfers, having won state and regional amateur titles, and played in several PGA Tour events, including the PGA Championship.

We maintain a vast knowledge library replete with years of research in human kinetics, countless PING Man robot and player tests, wind-tunnel simulations, studies in the ENSO 3D motion-capture laboratory, and analysis in the PING Putting Lab. Everything we learn guides our engineering solutions and serves PING's philosophy of Custom Engineered, Custom Fit, Custom Built.
 

During custom fittings we put assets in play that include AFS interchangeable fitting clubs, Trajectory Tuning technology, a TrackMan 4 launch monitor with dual-doppler radar, the PING Shaft App, and the iPING 2.0 putter app.

The TrackMan 4 Launch monitor is our primary data-collection tool at PING. In fact, we were the first golf company to own a launch monitor, we own more than any other club manufacturer, and we are the most highly trained in their use so that we maximize their benefits. We are honored to be the only golf club manufacturer that has 100% of our staff Fitting Specialists certified in TrackMan University’s Level I and Level II curriculum. (PING Proving Grounds Master Fitters have invested over 40 hours of continuing education to earn the prestigious TrackMan Level I and Level II certifications).
 

TrackMan 4’s Dual Doppler Radar Technology, originally designed for missile tracking, unlocks full three-dimensional ball and club data. Its focused high-resolution radar beam provides the user with the greatest detail and accuracy of the club’s movement and the full-down range ball flight. Both club and ball data are leveraged to optimize your equipment.

 

iPING 2.0

iPING 2.0 is a comprehensive, guided putter-fitting experience powered by high-frame-rate linear and rotational sensors. We rely on “big data” insights gleaned from more than 200,000 putting strokes, in addition to the game's most advanced putting algorithms. This vast knowledge is developed and continually updated by PING's Golf Science and R&D teams at the PING Proving Grounds in Phoenix, Arizona.
 

iPING 2.0 enables us to see things we can't with the naked eye: stroke type, tempo, dynamic loft and lie, and impact angle -- variables that will guide us to the model that's best for you.


Ballnamic Ball Fitting Tool

Rigorous and unbiased testing evaluates all relevant areas of ball performance, including how they perform in wet conditions and lies in the rough. Our database and flight models characterize full down-range driver and iron trajectories, workability, wind stability, and spin generation for full-swing and greenside wedge performance. In addition to comprehensive results, we also unlock personalized ball-flight comparisons across multiple spectrums of launch conditions, including how each specific ball performs in the wind.

Our collaboration with Arccos Golf will help you optimize your results through on-course data access and analysis. Utilizing Arccos Caddie Smart Grips and Smart Sensor Technology, the Arccos Smart Caddie app collects thousands of data points that can be analyzed to uncover opportunities for improvement through set makeup or equipment refinements.
