The PING G400 LST is the Most Wanted Driver of 2018 and the G400 Max is #1 in dispersion, according to researchers at noted website MyGolfSpy.com following their extensive testing of drivers from leading manufacturers. The G400 LST ranked #1 in strokes gained and #1 overall, and three G400 driver models performed near the top in distance, accuracy and ball speed. The G400 models tested were LST (low spin), Max, Standard, and SFT (straight flight).
“MyGolfSpy does very thorough testing, their methodology is sound and they dig deep into the data to determine their rankings. Plus, they’re completely independent, so it’s very satisfying that they’ve come to the same conclusion we do after all of our own testing – that our drivers perform amazingly well,” said John K. Solheim, PING President. “Their results are consistent with what we’ve been hearing since the launch of the G400 drivers last summer. The reviews have been overwhelming positive at every level. Our PGA Tour driver usage has nearly doubled since last year at this time and we’ve had multiple wins around the world, including two by PING pro Bubba Watson in the last month. Tony Finau leads the PGA Tour in driving distance and Trey Mullinax ranks 2nd, just a few yards behind. All of which validates our belief that if a golfer wants to improve their driving, a PING G400 is the best choice.”
How PING Drivers Rated:
- G400 LST #1 Overall
- G400 Max #1 Dispersion (shot area)
- G400 LST #1 in Strokes Gained (G400 SFT #5)
- G400 Standard #2, G400 Max #4, G400 LST #5 in Carry Distance
- G400 LST #3, G400 Standard #5, G400 Max #6 in Total Distance
- G400 Standard #2, G400 LST #3, G400 Max #5 in Ball Speed (all 4 models in top 10)
Solheim said studying reviews is a good start, but to make an informed, confident buying decision it’s essential that golfers get custom fit for a driver. “A custom fitting with a trained fitter is the best way to determine which G400 model will bring your game the most performance improvements. Our G400 Max provides distance through forgiveness, for example, whereas the standard model generates distance from speed, the LST helps lower spin, and the SFT promotes a right-to-left ball flight. So there’s a driver to fit every type of player, regardless of your handicap.”
“During the fitting process it’s important that golfers look closely at their dispersion results and not make their decision based on their one best shot on a launch monitor,” Solheim emphasized. “Dispersion is an overall performance measurement that reveals just how consistent your distance and accuracy results will be on the golf course. If they factor that data into the buying process, we know they’ll be much more satisfied over the long term.”
In the G400 LST, tungsten weighting closer to face reduces spin approximately 300 rpm to promote low, stable spin with forgiveness. It is the most-played PING model on the men’s and women’s pro tours. Watson won twice recently with his pink LST, including at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, where he blasted 21 drives of 350+ yards. The G400 Max is custom-engineered with the highest MOI ever in a PING model, the function of its larger profile, extreme tungsten weighting and a higher-density back weight in the multi-material, 460cc design. Distance leaders Finau and Mullinax rely on the G400 Max.
